Established on December 20, 2019, the United States Space Force carries a mission that most students don’t even know exists: to secure our Nation’s interests in, from, and to space. It is the most technology-intensive branch of the U.S. military, staffed by approximately 9,400 active-duty Guardians and over 5,000 civilians who represent some of the most highly skilled personnel in the armed forces. Guardians consistently score among the highest on military aptitude tests, and the branch has met its recruiting goals every year since its inception. Illuminating the Connection: Drone Skills to Space Careers
Many students and families don’t realize how directly drone education connects to Space Force career fields. The competencies built in a drone career pathway translate almost one-to-one with the technical demands Guardians face every day. Here’s where the light really turns on:
Remote Operations — The spatial awareness, telemetry interpretation, and precision control required for drone piloting are foundational skills for Space Systems Operations (1C6X1). Guardians in this specialty track satellites, monitor space flights, and support rocket launches through complex ground control interfaces that mirror drone operations.
Cyber and Programming — Our curriculum covers drone programming and data management—skills that align directly with Space Force Cyber Operations specialties (1D7X series). These are critical roles focused on defending networks, managing satellite communications, and maintaining system integrity across the space domain.
Intelligence Analysis — The sensor operation and imagery analysis skills students develop during drone missions apply directly to Geospatial Intelligence (1N1) and Signals Intelligence (1N2) careers. Guardians in these fields analyze data from space-based assets to inform national security decisions.
Gaming and Simulation — Here’s one most people don’t see coming: the Space Force actively recruits from the gaming community. Drone racing and FPV simulation build the rapid decision-making and situational awareness that high-stakes space operations demand. If a student can fly FPV, they already speak the language.
Earning an FAA Part 107 certification through our courses adds another layer, demonstrating a level of proficiency that parallels military licensing frameworks and gives students a genuine head start on enlistment.
