A 2024 study from Intelligent revealed some shocking statistics as they pertain to recent college graduates and the modern workforce. According to the data, “75% of companies report that some or all of the recent college graduates they hired this year were unsatisfactory.” They go on to admit that college graduates are ill prepared for the modern workforce, stating that they are often unprofessional and unable to handle the workload. While this is a scathing indictment on the state of the current college pipeline, it does propose an opportunity for students to start considering a different pathway. Because these numbers also suggest that businesses might become hesitant to hire traditional four-year degree college graduates.

With four-year universities’ perceived value is on shaky ground and the up and coming students not seeing the advantage that once was, there has been a sharp rise in interest for career and technical education programs. These have traditionally been reserved for careers like automotive maintenance and cosmetology. Today, there are more choices than ever before for students who want to go straight into the workforce after graduating high school. This includes technical training that prepares students for a career in drones. Drone technology has advanced rapidly in the past decade, opening up careers in agriculture, surveying, mapping, cinematography, and so much more.

Rocket Drones is a program that has been designed from the ground up for elementary, middle, and high school students to prepare them for a high-paying career right out of high school. Students who complete the program are set up for success with a comprehensive creative portfolio, real logged flight hours, and their Part 107 certification from the Federal Aviation Administration–all pieces of the puzzle that hiring managers are looking for. Even better, Rocket Drones gives students an opportunity to develop their soft skills by working in teams and learning how to solve real-world problems. According to the Intelligent article, these soft skills are sorely missing from recent college graduates’ list of marketable skills. This is a win for both students and companies searching for qualified, certified drone pilots.
