Our partnership with Women and Drones is built on a shared, passionate commitment to building a more inclusive drone industry. We both believe that the future of aviation should reflect the rich diversity of the communities it serves. This collaboration is dedicated to one powerful idea: ensuring every young woman can see a place for herself in a drone career. Together, we are working to turn that vision into reality, moving from the classroom to the cockpit.
About Women and Drones
Founded in 2017 by CEO Sharon Rossmark, Women and Drones is a women-owned and minority-owned small business with a global impact. Guided by the powerful motto, If you can see me, you can be me, the organizations mission is to increase female participation in the economic opportunities of the UAS industry. With a network connecting women across more than 22 countries, their programs span the entire career pipeline, from K-12 education and workshops to professional development and networking for established female drone pilots.
Building the Pipeline Together
A core part of the Women and Drones mission is its Kindergarten to Career initiative, which aligns perfectly with Rocket Drones own educational pathway. Through hands-on Kids With Drones workshops and a Drones for Education program that puts equipment directly into school STEM programs, Women and Drones introduces young girls to the magic of flight.
Our partnership brings this mission to life. We work together on joint events, like a drone summer camp in Washington D.C., that provide hands-on learning experiences. Through our programs, young female pilots are introduced to the incredible professional network and mentorship opportunities that Women and Drones provides. By featuring female instructors and industry leaders as role models, we show girls that a career in aviation is not just possible, but within their reach.
Why Inclusion Matters in Drone Racing
Drone racing and UAS operations are the ultimate equalizers. Success is not determined by physical attributes; it is defined by skill, practice, and precision. This is a field where the skill set is all that matters. This makes it a uniquely inclusive and welcoming environment for all students who are passionate about technology and competition.
This shared belief is why Women and Drones has also partnered with U.S. Drone Soccer to promote student equity in competitive flying. Its the same philosophy that drives our [Drone Racing Programs], which provide an equal opportunity for every student to learn, compete, and excel based on their dedication and talent.
From Classroom to Career
The work of creating a more inclusive industry is showing results. The number of women holding an FAA Part 107 certificate grew from under 800 in 2016 to over 19,000 by 2021, and this partnership is designed to accelerate that trend. Women and Drones provides the essential career infrastructure, including the annual Women to Watch in UAS Global Awards to recognize industry leaders, a Career Center with job listings, and a partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for higher education pathways. With support from corporate partners like Skydio and DJI, students who begin their journey in our programs can progress into this powerful professional network.
